soul cafe tmi?

Hi to Edwin etal,

I heard at our Bend meeting that soulcafe is trying to increase, to critical mass and beyond, "membership" in soul cafe.   To that end, is there a way of filtering out the "turnoff factor" that some of us are experiencing?

More definitvely, I'm glad to receive posts via email notifications about  occupy discussions, ncd, etc. As to personal chats between people using soul cafe for their feedback, not so much.

Is there a way to thread this needle?

It's been great to see again and meet some of you at our Bend session. The reading assignment's been well received, as far as I know. I'm appreciative of the church history, but not sure I understand or agree with the analytical models suggested in the later chapters of the Great Emergence. I look forward to discussing those issues further with you, by posts in the synod coouncil group and/or at our next meeting.

"Turn-off Factor"

Hi Bruce,

Unfortunately, there has been no conversational filter developed for web threads as of yet. There are only logarithmic filters for spam, profanity, porn, and pre programmed key words. From your profile page, you can set your settings as to whether or not you want email notifications from a particular group. If you are set to receive email notifications from a group you will get the whole shebang. What might turn off one member will certainly engage others. Yet, within any web forum scenario, personal chats within threads are rude. Folks can be politely reminded that the forums are public facing and any ongoing personal conversations might better be relegated to another more appropriate personal conversation medium, and/or that frivolous banter clogs everybody's email notifications. If anything gets out of hand, please flag a post and it will be handled promptly. Usually people mean well, they just sometimes forget the context. But that type of inattention can be a good sign too - it usually means they're comfortable and are having a good time in what they regard as a safe place.

I think this query might be beneficial to all, but in the future, if you'd like to address me specifically, a quicker response will be had if you go through the "report a problem" link at the bottom of every page.

I really appreciate your input here - I hope this helps.

Cheers!

Edwin
