I am proud of our church which donates 2 tons of food each year to the Lutheran Social Services of Alaska foodbank. Under the current budget cut, which has resulted in a 36.7% cut in federal food assistance to local food banks we would need to increase that to 12 tons to make up the difference. I am not sure we can do that. Under the Ryan budget just passed by the house we would need to increase that to 32 tons to make up the difference. As people of faith, what should our response be to the current budget discussion?

Why Government Is Necessary

You have just given the best arguement for why we need government.  There are some issues, like this, that require a greater economy of scale than local, or even national organizations can manage.

To put it another way, It takes all of us to make sure everyone gets a fair shot at being well.

So, my response?  Support the Government and hold their feet to the fire to do what they should for ALL their citizens.

Yes, I am very concerned about the 30plus year battle as the government as bad.  The Government is the collective US.  All this small government talk is nothing more than wanting the leave the hen house doors open so the FOX can come in and raid the hen house.
