On 11/12/11 we had our last Mt. Tabor/PLUM cluster meeting at Redeemer/Leaven.  At that meeting we broke into groups for a "dream session."  The results of our dreaming are below.  Thanks to Lou and Mel Ussing for compiling this information.

Mt. PLUM Cluster 11/12/11

I. Need to look at what's happening now

A. Outreach - What opportunities are now available.  Co-op opportunities.

B. Reframe sense of mission for entire eastside.

C. Wider sense of mission.

II. Outreach - Team building with neighborhoods.

A. Neighbors/neighborhood associations

B. Schools

C. Ortiz Organization

D. Neighborhood association meetings in churches

E. Office or meeting space for other non-profits

F. Culture/language friendly

G. Community kitchens/cooking classes, etc.

H. Food banks, clothing centers

I. Senior housing

J. Daycare facilities

K. Respite care for all ages

L. Community gardens

M. Homeless shelters/warming centers including showers, laundry

N. Hot lunches

O. Pop can recycling

P. Relocation and continuity of services

Q. Cultural education- language classes, etc.

III. Ways to build community relationships/further goals

A. Door-to-door

C. Ask what they want or need, interest

D. Move from our individual programs to something greater

IV. Spiritual/Ministry Concerns/Mission

A. Jesus style of ministry - WWJD; grounded in prayer

B. Empower workers for Kingdom regardless of where or how they worship

C. What is God's mission for our eastside community - check your constitutions!

D. What is the mission of the Lutheran Church?  Is the cluster in this plan?

E. Organizational structure to manage combined ministry.

F. Art and conversation

G. Spiritual questions

H. Cluster Bible studies

I. Food distribution in the sanctuary

J. Share building with other worshipping communities

K. Worship, religious education programs

L. Reframe our sense of mission for entire eastside congregations

1. What are we going to do?

2. What is God already doing and how will we participate?

3. Status quo versus moving forward,

4. Make it about outcomes, not conversation.

5. Should we have another "cadre" of leaders focused on combining resources.

 

In compiling this, information was taken from five "dream sheets."  All of them had concern for providing care for the homeless and/or lower income.  Food distribution, warming shelters, clothing centers were all listed.  All of the sheets included examining our combined mission to the eastside community.
